IV. Svetla

Svetla Stoyanova and I met during the Goat Milk Festival through a mutual friend. Because of her fluency in English, I asked her to assist me as translator when I was recording conversations in Bulgarian. It is her voice that we hear in the three Bulgarian episodes. Like other young women of her generation that I talked to, she thought she had little of significance to say about her dreams, those that had been abandoned and those that were still guiding her. As the dreams premise was more of a conversation starter, we soon warmed up and found other significant issues, including the generational experience of the political changes in Bulgaria. Her sensitivity touched me deeply, as did her smiles and expressive self-presentation.
